De R_volution PlayerPro 8K TV wordt geleverd met een dubbele HDD-behuizing die tot 64 TB aan films, tv-series en concertbestanden kan opslaan. Het apparaat biedt dubbele HDMI-uitgang en dubbele HDMI-ingang, is compatibel met de nieuwste AV1-codec tot 8K-resolutie in HDR en levert een verbluffende beeld- en geluidskwaliteit die voldoet aan de eisen van de meest veeleisende thuisbioscoopliefhebbers.
Twee apparaten in één
De PlayerPro 8K, die voor 1.299 € wordt verkocht, is een bestandsspeler. Punt. Hij speelt MKV’s, Blu-ray ISO’s, hi-res audiobestanden, en doet dat uitstekend. Maar om Netflix, Disney+ of YouTube in 4K Dolby Vision te kunnen gebruiken, is een aanvullend apparaat in de keten nodig. De PlayerPro 8K TV heft deze beperking op door een gecertificeerde Android TV-laag te integreren, die toegang biedt tot alle streamingplatformen: Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV, Canal+, Paramount+, Max, YouTube en nog vele andere, allemaal in Ultra HD 4K met ondersteuning voor HDR10 en Dolby Vision op alle profielen.
Concreet integreert de PlayerPro 8K TV twee afzonderlijke processors. De hoofd-SoC blijft de Amlogic S928X-K/J, met vier ARM A55-cores op 2,0 GHz, één ARM A76-core op 1,9 GHz en een extra core die is toegewezen aan het systeem. Een tweede processor, de Amlogic S905X4-K (vier ARM A55-cores op 2,0 GHz), ondersteunt de eerste en beheert het Android TV-gedeelte. Deze dual-processorarchitectuur is ook een van de redenen waarom R_volution twee afstandsbedieningen levert: één om alle multimediafuncties via R_video te bedienen, en een andere, compactere, die is toegewijd aan streaming, met directe sneltoetsen naar Netflix en YouTube.
Wat verandert (en wat niet verandert)
De aansluitingen evolueren op significante wijze. De PlayerPro 8K TV beschikt over een tweede HDMI 2.1a-uitgang uitsluitend voor audio, zodat audio- en videostreams naar een versterker en een scherm kunnen worden gescheiden zonder concessies aan de bandbreedte. Twee HDMI 2.1a-ingangen doen eveneens hun intrede, met een geïntegreerde switch-functie, een toevoeging die de noodzaak van een externe HDMI-switch vermindert.
Wat beeldverwerking betreft, kondigt R_volution een AI-model aan voor beeldkwaliteitsverbetering (Picture Quality) en opschaling (Super Resolution). De rest van de architectuur is identiek aan die van de PlayerPro 8K: VS10-videoprocessing ontwikkeld door Dolby (12 bit, SDR-naar-HDR-conversie en omgekeerd), compatibiliteit met Dolby Vision alle profielen, HDR10, HDR10+ met dynamische tone mapping, upscaling tot 8K en ondersteuning van de AV1-codec in 8K 60p HDR via de HDMI 2.1-uitgang.
Op audiovlak vinden we opnieuw de decodering van DTS:X Pro, Dolby Atmos en de on-the-fly conversie van meerdere formaten (FLAC, AC-4, HE-AAC, AAC, AIFF, multikanaals WAV) naar PCM 5.1 of 7.1 via het Dolby MS12-proces. Hi-res audioformaten tot 192 kHz/24 bit, DSD en SACD ISO’s worden ondersteund.
Ook aan de opslag verandert niets: dubbele 3,5” SATA-bay die plaats biedt aan twee harde schijven van elk 64 TB, ofwel 128 TB in totaal. De lineaire voeding met ringkerntransformator en de 24 MHz TCXO-klok (veelvoud van 48 kHz voor audio en 24 Hz voor video) blijven behouden.
Een punt om te noteren: in de eerste versie van de aankondiging werd melding gemaakt van een verdubbeling van het RAM- en Flash-geheugen ten opzichte van de PlayerPro 8K (8 GB RAM en 64 GB Flash tegenover 4 GB en 32 GB). R_volution heeft deze informatie sindsdien gecorrigeerd: de geheugencapaciteiten zijn identiek bij beide modellen.
R_video en het multiroom-ecosysteem
De PlayerPro 8K TV wordt geleverd met R_video, de eigen mediacenter-software van R_volution. De software scant de bestanden die zijn opgeslagen op de interne schijven of op een NAS in het netwerk, en haalt automatisch de hoesafbeeldingen, synopsis, cast en technische metadata van elke titel op. Hij beheert saga’s gegroepeerd, biedt navigatiefilters (titel, acteur, regisseur, genre, duur, releasedatum) en kan trailers rechtstreeks vanuit de interface starten.
De functie R_Share, al aanwezig op de andere spelers in het gamma, maakt het mogelijk om content te distribueren naar andere R_volution-spelers (of compatibele Zappiti-spelers) in verschillende kamers van één huishouden. Voormalige eigenaars van Zappiti-spelers kunnen R_video trouwens op hun bestaande apparatuur gebruiken, in ruil voor een abonnement.
